“Crooklyn”
…to set of Family That Preys
PODCAST TRANSCRIPT
I was a stand-in/photo double…primarily photo double for Alfre Woodard and that was an amazing time. I loved working on the set of Family That Preys. It’s a Tyler Perry Production and it shot in Atlanta, Louisiana, and it shot in Sedona, Arizona.
I was able to travel with all of them to Louisiana and Sedona because they had a lot of scenes that Alfre was in. It was about her and Kathy Bates' character being best friends and Kathy's character dying and so on, but... anyway you actually have to see the movie if you haven't already seen it, to get the gist of it and understand. That movie was wonderful. But yeah what a great experience being a photo double. Same thing, you know, you learn a lot about what's going on in the scene. You’re right up there where the principal actor is. I love Alfre Woodard. I've loved all of the work that she does because she has… the thing that's going on inside. This inner energy that she has is the quiet type of energy and I …oh my goodness, I would love to be like her. I would like to perform the way she does.
One of my favorite movies that I watched that she was in was Crooklyn. It was from Crooklyn that I said, “Wow, someday, someday!” Who knew that that “someday” would be… I would ACTUALLY be right next to her! That I would ACTUALLY be her stand-in/photo double!
But anyway… I digress. The thing I loved so much about her on set is how she acknowledged me. I remember one morning she had come in. It was an early morning call and she had her little bag with her because she had all her stuff in her bag and she was walking towards the hair makeup trailer. I was standing outside. I don't even know why. What I was waiting for… I don't know …but she walked by and she looked at me and she said. “ Hi Sherry”. That just touched me so much because she recognized me and she remembered my name. This may have been the second day or something of shooting.
Once we got to Arizona and there were scenes they had to shoot atop the mountain. It was in Sedona. Her and Kathy Bates were having their picnic for that particular scene and the view was just gorgeous! It was so beautiful. Alfre again was so gracious and Kathy Bates the same. When all the shooting was done for that particular scene, I was so timid and I asked Alfre, “is it okay if I could take a photo with you?” She was so kind about that! It was without question. She said, “Yes!” So we sat and took this photo above the mountain top. That was just the most wonderful experience ever!
