Suzzanne Douglas…I loved her!
She has since passed which is so really sad because she was an amazing talented actress.
I was her stand-in that many years ago on the set of Promised Land which was filmed in Salt Lake City Utah. Ossie Davis worked on that set. Oh my goodness, I had such a wonderful experience with him too.
Suzzanne was playing his daughter and she was getting married. On this particular day, I'm her stand-in for blocking and everything. And they were waiting for Suzzanne to arrive on set for rehearsal. And, Suzanne had not yet arrived so they gave me her script ( or her sides) so that I could look at it briefly, so that I could run the lines with the other actors until Suzzanne arrived.
What I loved is her spirit. Because as soon as Suzzanne arrived on set she was SO very apologetic, you know,... for arriving late. She wasn’t horribly late or anything like but just the fact that she wasn't there at the time that she was needed. She came up to me and she, oh my goodness, she was so grateful and generous to me. She thanked me. She said, ‘thank you so much for standing here for me!”. She was just the kindest, kindest person!
So that was my experience. My experience is that of this spirit she had and how apologetic she was and thanking me for being there for her until she arrived. Her beautiful spirit and amazing talent will be missed!
